The Edinburgh Shambhala Meditation Group offers a place to practice sitting meditation, courses and weekend programmes in Shambhala Buddhism and the meditative arts, and instruction both for newcomers and more advanced students.
We meet every Wednesday from 6.45-8.45pm at The Salisbury Centre (at The Studio) for sitting and walking meditation, with shamatha yoga, a short series of simple standing stretches. Stretching, moving body energy, and encouraging flexibility, the specific sequence of Shamatha Yoga allows for the experience of physicality and a return to the sitting practice fresh and renewed. No kit needed for this yoga practice.
We start with a session of sitting meditation, then a brief walking meditation or shamatha yoga. We may have a talk by one of our resident teachers, by a visiting teacher, listen to a DVD or other recording, do a contemplation, read a book chapter or have a discussion.
See our Wednesday Agenda. We usually end with tea and biscuits.
Individual meditation instruction is available from one of our trained meditation instructors by previous arrangement – either meeting before the main session, or at the same time if space is available in one of the other rooms.
Please note there is a suggested donation of £3-£5 per evening to help cover the cost of renting the space.
Several times a year we offer an evening course of five classes, or a weekend workshop lasting two days.
We also have a small library of books on Shambhala and Buddhism that are available for loan to regular participants, and some books available for purchase.
